History

Experienced residential developer

BWG Homes has built more than 86 000 homes in Norway and more than 90 000 homes in Sweden. Our experience as a residential developer goes back to 1927. Through our well etablished brands, BWG Homes has been setting the standard for residential areas and modern houses, and for cost effective building processes - for the best of our customers.

 

  • The BWG Homes' business roots are more than 100 years old. The pre-history of Block Watne is sawmill and timber industry in Sandnes in south-western Norway.
  • In 1926 Gabriel Block Watne takes over the business, and Block Watne AS becomes a reality.
  • With the next generation and Gunnar Block Watne, house building becomes the main business. He was inspired by American construction methods. 
  • The first house catalogue with four standard houses was published in 1959 - "Now you can afford to build ..."
  • The company was listed on Oslo Børs in 1971
  • In 1990 Walter Nilsen acquired Block Watne AS. The company was delisted, and an extensive restructuring was started.
  • New building methods were implemented. The building processes are devided between specialised carpenter teams. 
  • Lars Nilsen assumes control in 2004 and complete ownership in 2004. Several years of restructuring yield profitability.
  • Block Watne Gruppen ASA is listed at Oslo Børs 17 March 2006.
  • The acquisition of the Swedish Prevesta AB with the brands Myresjöhus and SmålandsVillan was completed in May 2007. The business has its roots back to 1927, and is the leading residential house builder in Sweden.
  • The group doubles its operation and takes position as the leading Nordic residential developer.
  • BWG Homes ASA is the group's name from 20 September 2007.
  • The Hetlandhus brand is relaunched in Norway in Q1 2009 with a portfolio of nine modern and functional standard houses.
